We provide drilling services primarily to major or independent oil and natural gas producers that operate in the most active exploration and productions areas in the country including the Marcellus shale and the Arkoma, Fort Worth, and Permian Basins. Since commencing operations in 1997, we have increased the size of our fleet to 53 marketed land drilling rigs, through a combination of acquisitions and new rig construction and divestitures of older, smaller equipment.

Our principal operations are in the Appalachian Basin, extending from New York to Tennessee including the Marcellus, Huron and Utica shales, as well as the Clinton, Medina, and Oriksany sands; the Arkoma Basin in eastern Oklahoma and Arkansas, including the Fayetteville, Caney and Woodford shales; and the Fort Worth basin in North Texas, including the Barnett shale and in West Texas, the Permian and Delaware basins. These plays are generally characterized by unconventional formations with very low permeability rock, such as shales, tight sands and and coalbed methane (CBM) that require specialized drilling techniques to efficiently develop the oil or natural gas resources. Horizontal drilling is often used in these formations to increase the exposure of the wellbore to the oil or natural gas producing formation and increase drainage rates and production volumes. Substantially all of our rigs are equipped to efficiently drill in these unconventional formations.

Our strategy is to focus on areas that have high growth potential, adequate takeaway capacity and low finding and development costs in order to maximize utilization and return on capital though out the commodity price cycle.
